Supporting Healing in Addiction and Co-Occurring Disorders: A Compassion-Centered, Evidence-Informed Approach
This article examines evidence-informed approaches to treating individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, emphasizing integrated care, trauma-informed practice, and therapeutic alliance as outlined in SAMHSA’s Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP 42) (Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, 2020). It further explores the demonstrated efficacy of treatment interventions implemented within accountability and treatment courts, where structured judicial oversight paired with behavioral health services significantly improves outcomes (Marlowe, 2010; Werb et al., 2008). Drawing on clinical expertise, lived experience, and active work within a Family Treatment Court setting, this article highlights the transformative potential of coordinated, multidisciplinary approaches to healing.
