Evan Leonard, DMS, MS, PA-C, is a distinguished Physician Associate and academic leader based in Oral Springs, Florida. With over a decade of clinical experience, he has established a career at the intersection of medicine, medical education, and service. Known for balancing rigorous scientific knowledge with compassionate patient care, Dr. Leonard exemplifies the ideals of a clinician-educator committed to advancing both health outcomes and medical training.
Currently, Dr. Leonard serves as an Assistant Professor of Anatomy and Medical Education, teaching graduate-level courses in anatomy, neuroanatomy, pathophysiology, physical diagnosis, and physician assistant medicine and surgery. As course director for Gross Anatomy and Surgical Principles, he designs curricula that integrate foundational sciences with practical clinical skills. His teaching philosophy emphasizes competency-based learning, interactive instruction, and authentic assessments to prepare students for real-world clinical practice.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Leonard actively practices medicine through international medical missions, traveling annually to countries such as Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. These experiences allow him to provide direct patient care, support local healthcare initiatives, and instill global health perspectives among future healthcare professionals. His dedication to underserved populations reflects a lifelong commitment to service and advocacy in medicine.
Dr. Leonard’s academic foundation is extensive. He earned a Master of Science in Human Anatomy, a Master of Medical Science from Nova Southeastern University, and a Doctor of Medical Science from Lincoln Memorial University College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating magna cum laude. His doctoral research focused on improving differential diagnosis skills in physician assistant students, highlighting his commitment to advancing medical education and clinical competency in the PA profession.
An active member of the professional community, Dr. Leonard holds fellowships with the American Doctor of Medical Science Association and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. He is affiliated with the American Association of Clinical Anatomists and serves on the veterans subcommittee of the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants. Recognized by America’s Best in Medicine and the Continental Who’s Who Pinnacle Professional Award, and a decorated United States Marine Corps veteran, he also contributes to research on congenital heart disease, infectious disease, and competency-based education. What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I find the greatest fulfillment in practicing medicine through both patient care and medical education. I enjoy helping patients navigate complex health challenges while also mentoring the next generation of healthcare providers. Being able to combine clinical practice with teaching allows me to make a meaningful impact on individuals and the broader medical community.
