Amy Tostenson is the Founder and Owner of Rise of the Phoenix Coach LLC, a Nurse Life Coaching practice dedicated to helping individuals rebuild their lives after trauma, addiction, burnout, and major life transitions. Based in Omaha, Nebraska, Amy brings nearly 20 years of nursing experience—primarily in geriatrics, hospice, long-term care, and home health—to her coaching work. Her unique combination of clinical expertise and lived experience equips her to guide clients through profound personal transformation with compassion, insight, and practical strategies.

After witnessing the limitations and systemic challenges within traditional healthcare, Amy felt called to expand her impact beyond bedside care. Certified through the Nurse Life Coach Academy, she now provides holistic, telehealth-based coaching that integrates mindset work, resilience-building, faith, and actionable recovery strategies. Her approach helps clients navigate life’s challenges while aligning their actions with their deepest values and aspirations.

Mission Statement:

Rise of the Phoenix Coach empowers people to emerge from trauma, addiction, and life’s toughest seasons—whether that looks like burnout, loss, or a major life transition. Together, we REBUILD confidence, REIGNITE inner strength, and RISE into a life of clarity and purpose. Through compassionate mindset shifts and a goal-oriented coaching process, we turn struggle into transformation and help clients step into renewed power and hope.

Amy’s professional mission is deeply rooted in her personal journey. A survivor of severe childhood trauma, C-PTSD, and addiction, she courageously pursued residential treatment and transitional recovery support—an experience she describes as transformative. Rising from victim to survivor to thriver, Amy embodies the principles of her coaching: Rebuild, Reignite, and Rise. She believes that every individual has the capacity to transform struggle into growth, regain control over their life, and step confidently into their purpose.

Her coaching methodology emphasizes self-love, setting healthy boundaries, spiritual growth, mindfulness, and sustainable recovery practices. By sharing her own story openly and authentically, Amy creates a safe and empowering space where clients feel understood, supported, and inspired to make lasting change. She tailors her programs to each client, combining mindset shifts with tangible action plans to ensure measurable, meaningful progress.

In addition to leading her coaching practice, Amy continues part-time nursing work as a Charge Nurse, providing care and mentorship while developing future projects, including writing, public speaking, and podcasting. She also plans to transition her business into a nonprofit model to serve underserved populations, further amplifying her mission of hope and restoration.

A graduate of Clarkson College, where she completed her LPN with honors and was recognized as “Most Likely to Succeed,” Amy remains deeply committed to lifelong learning and service. Through Rise of the Phoenix Coach, she is dedicated to guiding individuals toward clarity, purpose, and genuine happiness—proving that no matter how painful the past, transformation is possible, and a renewed life awaits.

Amy’s vision extends beyond coaching; she strives to inspire communities, destigmatize mental health and addiction recovery, and demonstrate the power of resilience. Her work is a testament to the human spirit’s capacity to overcome adversity and embrace a life of renewed strength, hope, and fulfillment.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I am passionate about helping people. It gives me great pleasure and a sence of fulfillment and purpose. Seeing someone light up with the effects of results makes the hard work which does not even seem like work, all worthwhile. When you are in a practice and the "work" feels heavy and more days than not, you are not wanting to do the work, it is more than likely not aligned with what you are meant to be doing. I thoroughly enjoy my work and know it is what I am meant to be doing.
