Wayne C. Wallace, DDS
Dr. Wayne C. Wallace is a dental professional with over 36 years of experience, currently serving as Dental Director at Humana, where he has worked for approximately four and a half years. In this non-clinical leadership role, he oversees clinical coverage policies, state-level case management, provider relations, member care, and overall quality of dental services within Humana Medicaid programs. His work focuses on ensuring access, consistency, and quality in dental care delivery across member populations.
Prior to transitioning into dental administration, Dr. Wallace spent the majority of his career in clinical practice, working directly with patients in a variety of settings. His last clinical role was at a homeless clinic, reflecting a longstanding commitment to serving underserved and vulnerable populations. Throughout his clinical and administrative career, he has remained deeply engaged in community-focused care and healthcare accessibility.
Dr. Wallace’s professional path has been shaped by both family influence and personal passion for service, including inspiration from his grandfather and uncle, who were both medical doctors. He chose dentistry for its balance of hands-on clinical work and meaningful community impact, and has consistently advocated for a more integrated, holistic approach to oral health within the broader medical field. He continues to contribute to the profession through lectures at nonprofits, homeless clinics, and medical health fairs, focusing on oral hygiene education and the connection between dental and systemic health.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I do enjoy it. It's something that brings me a lot of gratitude. My family had some association with medicine - my granddad was a medical doctor, my uncle was a medical doctor, and I sort of saw that role as important to the community, service to the people who were around me. I didn't want to do medicine though. I wanted to do something that kind of went with my personality, which is that I like to work with my hands. I like to do something very particular, so dentistry seemed like the best professional service that I could do for the community, and it's been a pleasure to do something like that for the last 36 years. My last dental providership was actually in a homeless clinic, and I do enjoy it.
