Daisy Narciso has dedicated 30 years to nursing, bringing compassionate care and clinical expertise to patients across multiple specialties. She currently serves as the Wound Care Coordinator at Encompass Health in Round Lake, Illinois, managing all wound care admissions and discharges to ensure patients receive the treatments and resources they need. She takes pride in promoting wound healing before patients go home, minimizing the need for extensive discharge planning and improving overall patient outcomes.

Her career spans a wide range of clinical areas, including operating room nursing—assisting surgeons and caring for patients pre- and post-operatively—and respiratory nursing, where she worked with trach and ventilator patients. Daisy has also held leadership roles as a Director of Nursing and consultant, overseeing wound care programs and risk management initiatives. Additionally, she has served as an infection control coordinator, expanding her expertise in patient safety and quality care.

Originally from the Philippines, Daisy earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Saint Louis University in 1992. She moved to the United States in 1994 and obtained her RN license in 1995. Her personal experience as a cancer patient during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 deepened her understanding of patient care, giving her firsthand insight into what it feels like to be on the other side of treatment. This experience reinforced her commitment to treating patients with dignity, empathy, and compassion.

Daisy is currently pursuing a Master’s degree and Family Nurse Practitioner certification with a specialty in wound care from Walden University. She is an active member of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN), serving on their conference planning committee, where she contributes to advancing rehabilitation nursing practice. Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most is seeing patients improve and helping them regain independence. I love when patients are surprised that someone as small as me—I’m only about five feet tall—is their nurse. At first, they might be tentative, but as the day goes on, they learn to trust me and rely on my guidance. My goal is that by the time they go home, they feel capable of caring for themselves. The trust my patients place in me, no matter my size, and the satisfaction of knowing I’ve made a difference in their lives, is incredibly rewarding. Even on exhausting days, that sense of accomplishment reminds me why I chose this profession.
