Dr. Wilson Parrish Daugherty, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Wilson Parrish Daugherty, M.D., Ph.D., is a highly skilled neurosurgeon and a fourth-generation physician, continuing a family legacy in medicine that spans orthopedics, cardiology, and primary care. Born into a lineage of dedicated medical professionals, Dr. Daugherty’s passion for medicine was nurtured from an early age, guiding him toward a career in neurosurgery. He earned his undergraduate degree at the College of William & Mary, focusing on neuroscience research, and later completed both his M.D. at Virginia Commonwealth University and a Ph.D. in Physiology, where his research centered on cerebral oxygenation and traumatic brain injury.
Following medical school, Dr. Daugherty trained at the prestigious Mayo Clinic, completing a six-year neurosurgery residency and a subsequent cerebrovascular fellowship. He began his practice in Charlotte, North Carolina, before returning to Virginia to serve the local community at Sentara Neurosurgery Specialists. As the only dually trained neurovascular surgeon in South Hampton Roads, he brings expertise in both open and endovascular neurosurgery, treating complex conditions such as aneurysms, brain AVMs, and stroke.
In addition to his neurovascular work, Dr. Daugherty is recognized for performing a significant number of outpatient spine surgeries, including laminectomies and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion procedures. His approach allows patients to recover comfortably at home while benefiting from advanced, minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Daugherty is also experienced in reconstructive and deformity spine surgery, as well as tumor dissections. Known for his clinical precision, dedication, and compassionate care, he takes pride in the meaningful impact he has on his patients’ lives every day.
