Tamitha Hickman, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, CCM, is a highly dedicated and outcome-driven advanced practice registered nurse with more than 25 years of nursing experience and over eight years specializing in functional and integrative medicine. Known for her holistic and patient-centered philosophy, Hickman combines traditional medical care with evidence-based integrative approaches to address the root causes of illness and promote long-term wellness. Her clinical expertise spans primary care, chronic disease management, and personalized health coaching, allowing her to support patients through comprehensive and transformative care.
In January 2015, Hickman founded Divine by Design: Integrative/Functional Holistic Health in Wabash, Indiana, where she serves as owner, family nurse practitioner, and health coach. Through her practice, she implements holistic, herbal, integrative, and functional medicine models to improve patient outcomes and overall quality of life. She leads a multidisciplinary team that includes nurse practitioners, a health coach, and administrative staff while providing functional nutrigenomics consulting, chronic illness coaching, and behavior modification strategies using motivational interviewing techniques. Hickman also contributes to medical education through freelance medical writing and professional content development across digital platforms.
Prior to establishing her private practice, Hickman served as a nurse practitioner with Superior Health–American Health Network–Optum, where she provided occupational health, family medicine, and internal medicine services. During her tenure, she launched a diabetes education and nutritional program and successfully integrated functional medicine into an employer-based healthcare setting, helping reduce healthcare costs through preventive and nutrition-focused interventions. Earlier, she worked with Parkview Integrative Medicine as a Clinical Program Coordinator and Clinical Research Assistant, contributing to microbiome and vitamin D receptor research, grant writing, patient education development, and practitioner training initiatives.
Hickman’s extensive healthcare career also includes leadership roles in utilization review, case management, public health nursing, and healthcare education. She directed a Certified Nursing Assistant training program for the Huntington County Community School Corporation, managed public health and immunization clinics, and served as a cardiovascular intensive care nurse and physician extender in hospital settings. Her early medical foundation began with honorable service in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, Licensed Practical Nurse, nationally certified EMT, and radiologic technician, experiences that shaped her commitment to disciplined, compassionate care.
Hickman earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University, following completion of her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Associate of Science in Nursing degrees. She holds board certification through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and completed a Fellowship in Herbal Medicine through the Association for the Advancement of Restorative Medicine. In addition to numerous advanced certifications in functional medicine, nutrigenomics, immunology, and longevity medicine, she remains actively engaged in professional organizations and community service initiatives.
