Shital Oli, MD
Dr. Shital Oli, MD, is a dedicated physician specializing in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and currently serves as Chief Fellow at The Guthrie Clinic's Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania. Expected to complete his fellowship training in 2026, Dr. Oli is committed to providing exceptional care to critically ill and medically complex patients while advancing the fields of pulmonary and critical care medicine through clinical excellence, education, and research.
Dr. Oli began his medical journey in Nepal, where he earned his medical degree in 2015 following five and a half years of comprehensive medical education and internship training. He subsequently worked as a house officer from 2015 to 2020, developing a strong foundation in internal medicine and patient-centered care. Motivated to expand his clinical expertise, he pursued the United States Medical Licensing Examination pathway and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca from 2020 to 2023.
His residency training coincided with the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, a transformative experience that profoundly influenced his approach to patient care and solidified his passion for critical care medicine. Witnessing critically ill patients recover from prolonged ventilator support and continue their healing journey through outpatient pulmonary care inspired him to pursue advanced training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
In his current fellowship, Dr. Oli manages a diverse range of complex pulmonary and critical care conditions. His expertise includes the treatment of respiratory failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), sepsis, septic shock, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations, asthma, lung cancer, pulmonary nodules, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and sleep-disordered breathing. He is highly skilled in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), transbronchial and endobronchial biopsies, thoracentesis, chest tube placement, tunneled pleural catheter placement, and the interpretation of cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and pulmonary function testing (PFT).
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Oli is passionate about medical education and academic medicine. As a Senior Clinical Instructor at Geisinger Medical Center, he mentors medical students, residents, and junior fellows in topics such as mechanical ventilation, shock management, and complex pulmonary disorders. An active member of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST), Dr. Oli remains engaged in collaborative research and lifelong learning, striving to improve patient outcomes and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of pulmonary and critical care medicine.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most about practicing medicine is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives during some of their most vulnerable moments. In pulmonary and critical care medicine, I value building long-term relationships with patients while also managing complex and acute illnesses that require teamwork, critical thinking, and compassion. It is especially rewarding to help patients breathe better, improve their quality of life, and support families through challenging situations.
