Shayla K. Bratcher, MSN, BSN, RN

Shayla Bratcher, MSN, BSN, RN, is a dedicated Nursing Manager at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center, where she leads with compassion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care to veterans. Inspired by Abraham Lincoln’s enduring promise “to care for him who shall have borne the battle,” Shayla views nursing as more than a profession—it is a calling to serve those who have served. Since beginning her career at the VA, she has developed a deep passion for caring for veterans and remains committed to making a meaningful difference in their lives each day.

Shayla’s professional journey is also a powerful story of resilience, determination, and transformation. Before beginning her nursing career, she faced significant personal challenges, including addiction, and found herself in a very difficult place in life. After getting clean, she made the courageous decision to pursue nursing education, despite doubts from others about whether she would complete the journey. Through hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering belief in herself, Shayla earned her nursing credentials and built a career dedicated to caring for others. Her journey has shaped the strength, empathy, and determination she brings to her leadership every day.

With a Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Management from Western Governors University, Shayla combines advanced nursing knowledge with strategic leadership skills to improve patient outcomes and healthcare operations. Her experience encompasses both hands-on patient care and nursing administration, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of the needs of patients, nurses, and healthcare teams. As a Nursing Manager, she emphasizes teamwork, accountability, education, and empathy while creating an environment where staff members feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow. She is committed to maintaining high standards of care while encouraging continuous learning and professional development.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Shayla is driven by a lifelong commitment to learning, service, and personal growth. She approaches challenges with determination and believes that effective leadership begins with listening, empathy, and meaningful action. Looking toward the future, she hopes to continue growing within the VA system and contribute to programs and initiatives that honor veterans through quality care, innovation, dignity, and respect.
