Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What really drew me towards this work was my own experience of working through trauma and how counseling changed my world when I moved here from Asia 13 years ago. I didn't grow up with access to counseling due to stigma, but when I started counseling here, it just changed everything in terms of how my nervous system was able to feel safe for the first time in a very long time. I was able to differentiate my needs, wants and patterns from intergenerational expectations and come into my authentic self more intentionally. I was able to respond to things from a more aligned identity of how I chose to show up. That's what really drew me towards this work - being able to work with clients one-on-one and just be there with them as a witness to their healing and growth. I feel like I'm able to use self-disclosure carefully with clients where they can feel like they are not alone and feel heard, seen and understood by someone.
