Madison Whittaker, RN, BSN
Madison (Maddie) Whittaker, RN, BSN, is a dedicated registered nurse with more than four years of experience providing specialized patient care across critical care and interventional radiology settings. Currently serving as an Interventional Radiology Nurse with X-Ray Associates of New Mexico, she supports a wide range of minimally invasive procedures focused on pain management and oncology care, including biopsies, diagnostic interventions, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment support. In her role as a sedation nurse, Maddie combines clinical expertise with a patient-centered approach to deliver safe, compassionate care throughout every stage of treatment.
Prior to transitioning into interventional radiology, Maddie spent the majority of her nursing career within the University of New Mexico Health System, including the Trauma, Surgical, and Burn Intensive Care Unit at The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center. Her experience in high-acuity environments strengthened her clinical judgment, leadership abilities, and commitment to evidence-based practice. Passionate about professional growth, she earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Central New Mexico Community College before completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at The University of New Mexico, where she continued building the foundation for her advancing career.
Beyond direct patient care, Maddie is actively involved in developing clinical policies, training initiatives, and educational programs that support nursing excellence and operational effectiveness. She remains committed to lifelong learning through ongoing certifications and advanced training and is currently pursuing prerequisites for a Doctor of Nursing Practice and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) program. Driven by a passion for helping others while maintaining a healthy work-life balance, Maddie is focused on making a meaningful impact on patients, colleagues, and the future of healthcare.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I really like concentrating on family and involving caretakers and those kinds of things in patient care. That was a big motivational factor for doing interventions in ICU, having families being involved in care, and that is just so rewarding, especially coming from somewhere where I did more rural nursing. It's great to get people involved because your community is also going to be with you, and it's not just going to be us at the bedside. We want care to be throughout your stay and to be taken care of at home as well.
