Janice Hopkins is a retired Social Work Supervisor who dedicated over 18 years to serving children, youth, and families through the Philadelphia Department of Human Services. Throughout her career, she played a vital role in addressing the needs of individuals and families facing challenges related to mental health and child welfare. Her work was guided by compassion, professionalism, and a steadfast belief in the power of resilience and community support.

A proud graduate of Temple University’s School of Social Work, Janice earned her master’s degree with honors and was a member of the Golden Key Society. Her academic foundation strengthened her commitment to social justice, advocacy, and empowerment—principles she carried into every aspect of her leadership within the department. She was known for building strong relationships with colleagues and clients alike, fostering trust and collaboration in her teams.

Now retired, Janice continues to embody the values that defined her career: service, empathy, and perseverance. She remains passionate about empowering others to overcome life’s challenges and to never give up. Her legacy in Philadelphia’s social work community reflects not only years of dedication but also a deep and lasting impact on the lives of those she served.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I’ve enjoyed most throughout my career is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I’ve spent many years assisting individuals with mental health challenges and supporting children, youth, and families involved in child welfare. Each experience has reinforced my purpose—to empower others to persevere, believe in themselves, and never give up, no matter the obstacles they face.
