Janet McKee, LPN, BAS, CMCN, is a dedicated nursing professional with 17 years of experience, currently serving at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Lakeland, Florida. She began her nursing journey in 2009 after earning her LPN certificate from Travis Career Center, where she was recognized as the MVP of her graduating class. She later advanced her education by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management from Polk State College in 2014. Janet’s early career was rooted in specialty surgical nursing, where she worked closely with urology, general surgery, vascular, and ENT plastic surgeons, gaining a strong clinical foundation and diverse procedural experience.
Driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact, Janet transitioned to the VA to serve those who have served the nation, bringing her skills into a patient-centered, primary care environment. She recently earned her certification in Managed Care Nursing (CMCN) through the American Association of Managed Care Nurses (AAMCN), further strengthening her expertise in care coordination and healthcare navigation. Her path into nursing was inspired during her time as a unit coordinator, where registered nurses recognized her compassion and encouraged her to pursue a clinical role—a decision that has shaped her impactful career.
Janet is deeply passionate about patient advocacy and education, consistently working to ensure individuals have access to the resources and support they need to thrive. Looking ahead, she is exploring the integration of nursing and computer science, with a focus on enhancing patient education and improving healthcare accessibility through innovative solutions. What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I love most about what I'm doing is making a patient see how happy they are about the care that I provide for them, and having them tell me that we need more nurses like me. That feedback means everything to me. It's about knowing that I've made a real difference in their experience and that they feel truly cared for. When patients express that kind of gratitude and recognition, it validates why I chose this profession and reminds me of the impact compassionate nursing can have on people's lives.
