Dr. Jay Rivas, DNP, PMHNP‑BC, is a board‑certified psychiatric nurse practitioner at NuMind Psychiatry, providing comprehensive mental health care to patients of all ages. He earned his Doctorate in Nursing Practice from The University of Texas Health Science Center, graduating with distinguished honors, and completed advanced clinical training at highly respected institutions. His doctoral research focused on post-stroke depression and anxiety, exploring innovative approaches to support individuals navigating these complex conditions.
Dr. Rivas practices with a holistic, patient-centered philosophy, integrating evidence-based interventions such as medication management, psychotherapy, sleep hygiene, nutrition, physical activity, social support, and mindfulness into individualized care plans. He treats a broad spectrum of conditions, including ADHD, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, eating disorders, sleep challenges, substance use concerns, adolescent psychosis, borderline personality disorder, and issues related to weight and sexual function.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Rivas is committed to promoting community mental health and well-being. He enjoys spending time with his family, sharing meals with his grandfather, and hiking local trails with his Mini Schnauzer, Scotty. What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I enjoy most about practicing medicine the opportunity to improve the mental health outcomes of my patients. Being able to help individuals navigate challenges, develop coping strategies, and achieve a greater sense of well-being is deeply rewarding. Seeing patients make meaningful progress and regain balance in their lives is what motivates me every day.
