Jacob D. Sumner, BSN, RN, CCRN, is a dedicated critical care nurse and emerging healthcare leader based in Kansas City, Missouri. Currently serving in the Cardiovascular ICU at NKC Health, he brings frontline clinical expertise to every aspect of patient care. Jacob is a dual MSN/MBA candidate, combining advanced nursing practice with business acumen to drive operational excellence, workforce development, and patient-centered solutions. His career focuses on bridging clinical insight with systems-level improvements to create safer, more effective, and equitable healthcare environments.
Beyond the bedside, Jacob is deeply committed to leadership and professional development. He has held multiple leadership roles, including District Nurse Liaison for the Missouri Nurses Association, Young Professionals Board President for Project C.U.R.E., and alumni board president for UMKC’s School of Nursing & Health Studies. In these roles, he mentors novice nurses, spearheads community health initiatives, and advocates for policies that strengthen the healthcare workforce. Jacob also serves on NKC Health’s Nursing Peer Review and Medical Ethics Committees, contributing to organizational improvement, patient safety, and ethical clinical practices.
