Dr. Emily Haynes Cooper, MD, MHA is a dedicated Family Medicine physician with a passion for providing comprehensive, compassionate care to her patients. Born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in Health Education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1995, followed by a Master of Science in Biology from Old Dominion University in 2001. She graduated from VCU School of Medicine in 2006 with a combined Doctor of Medicine and Master’s in Health Administration, and completed her residency in Family Medicine at the Carolinas Healthcare Family Medicine Residency program in Charlotte, NC, where she served as Chief Resident. She also completed an administrative residency with the Chief Medical Officer at Sentara Healthcare in Norfolk, VA.

After residency, Dr. Cooper returned to the Tidewater area to practice outpatient medicine with Riverside Health System in Newport News and Sentara Healthcare in Chesapeake, VA. Driven by a strong desire to serve underserved populations, she later returned to Carolinas Healthcare (now Atrium Health) to develop a new model of care in rural Anson County, North Carolina. Her success in this initiative led to her recruitment as Medical Director at Atrium Health Biddle Point, a multidisciplinary clinic serving patients with limited access to care, and the site of the system’s first Food Pharmacy aimed at addressing social determinants of health.

In 2024, Dr. Cooper founded Dominion Health Family Wellness Center in Charlotte, NC, with a focus on holistic, family-centered primary care. She approaches medicine with both scientific rigor and empathetic understanding, guided by her faith and commitment to the community. Her clinical interests include adolescent health, women’s health, office procedures, geriatrics, and starting in 2026, she will expand her services through a Telehealth practice specializing in menopause and peri-menopause care. She believes that the health of the community depends on the well-being of every family member and is dedicated to providing inclusive and accessible care for all.

Dr. Cooper attributes her success to listening to her patients, building strong relationships, and remaining actively involved in the communities she serves. She strives to create a personalized and holistic healthcare experience for each patient, emphasizing mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Her practice is guided by a commitment to health equity, working to eliminate disparities and ensure quality care is available to everyone, including underinsured families.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Cooper enjoys reading and scrapbooking, creating lasting family memory books. She resides in a Charlotte suburb with her husband, Brian, their daughter, Dillon, her mother, and their spirited American Bully. She is a proud 30+ year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and remains active in her church community in Concord, NC. Through her work and personal life, Dr. Cooper demonstrates a lifelong commitment to family, faith, and the well-being of her community.
