David Neff, DO

Dr. David Neff, DO, was inspired to pursue a career in medicine following a life-changing experience at the age of 16, when he required a bone biopsy that carried the possibility of amputation. The compassion and skill demonstrated by the medical professionals who treated him left a lasting impression and motivated him to one day provide the same level of care to others. Encouraged by his high school guidance counselor, Dr. Neff recognized early on that medicine was the path he was meant to follow. He went on to earn his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1980, laying the foundation for a long and impactful career in healthcare.

Over the past 45 years, Dr. Neff has built a multifaceted career that spans clinical practice, healthcare leadership, and medical research. He spent two decades in clinical medicine before transitioning into the pharmaceutical industry, where he worked for 15 years, including a role as a Medical Science Liaison at Merck and as Senior Chief Medical Director for Medicaid Medical Affairs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he returned to direct patient care in urgent care and family practice settings. Today, he serves as Principal and CEO of David Neff DO PLLC and as a Clinical Professor at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. His clinical interests include hospice and palliative care, pain management, genomics, and advanced diagnostic technologies for infectious diseases, and he has published research on genomics in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Neff remains deeply engaged in advancing healthcare through professional involvement, research, and education. He is an active member of numerous professional organizations and frequently speaks at regional and national events on topics such as pain management, pharmaceutical drug discovery, and emerging therapies. In addition, he consults on cardiometabolic, renal, and hepatic syndromes, as well as innovative treatments for conditions including muscular dystrophy and long-term injectable antipsychotics. He credits much of his success to the mentors who guided him early in his career, as well as to the support of his wife, Elizabeth, and their three children. Outside of medicine, Dr. Neff enjoys golfing and downhill skiing and serves as a board member for the Care Free Clinic in Lansing, Michigan, where he continues to support expanded access to quality care for his community.
