Brian K. O'Connor, MD

Dr. Brian K. O’Connor is a distinguished pediatric cardiologist specializing in pediatric electrophysiology. He currently serves as the Director of Pediatric Electrophysiology at the Children’s Heart Center at Children’s Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, a position he has held since 2000. Dr. O’Connor brings extensive clinical expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex cardiac arrhythmias in children, including congenital and familial rhythm disorders, post-operative arrhythmias, and pacemaker or defibrillator therapy. He is fluent in both English and Spanish, allowing him to serve a diverse patient population.

Dr. O’Connor earned his medical degree with honors from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his pediatric internship and residency at Tufts–New England Medical Center in Boston. He subsequently pursued a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the University of Michigan Medical Center, followed by specialized training in pediatric cardiac electrophysiology and pacing under Dr. Paul Gillette at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is board certified in pediatric cardiology and general pediatrics and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Additionally, he is an active member of the Heart Rhythm Society and the Pediatric and Congenital Electrophysiology Society.

Throughout his career, Dr. O’Connor has focused on advancing the care of children with complex cardiac conditions. His clinical interests include the management of inherited and familial cardiac arrhythmias, the use of radiofrequency and cryotherapy ablation, pharmacologic treatment of rhythm disorders, prenatal and congenital cardiac rhythm disorders, and non-invasive cardiac monitoring. Dr. O’Connor is dedicated to combining cutting-edge electrophysiology techniques with compassionate patient-centered care, ensuring that children and their families receive the highest standard of treatment.
