Andrea Teresa Roche, MS, RD, LDN, IBCLC, is a clinical dietitian and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant with over fourteen years of experience as a dietitian and seven years as an IBCLC. She manages her private practice, North Shore Lactation and Nutrition, where she has provided personalized nutrition and lactation care for nearly a decade, while simultaneously serving at Mass General Brigham for fourteen years. Roche’s work focuses primarily on maternal and child health, including pediatrics, prenatal and postpartum nutrition, fertility, and perimenopause and menopause care. Her career reflects a commitment to improving patient outcomes through evidence-based interventions, individualized counseling, and hands-on lactation support.

Roche’s educational background combines rigorous academic training with extensive clinical experience. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Villanova University and a Master of Science in Nutrition Sciences from Simmons University. Her clinical training spans top institutions, including Mass General Brigham, Boston Children’s Hospital, and the Harvard School of Public Health. She holds credentials as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (Massachusetts), and IBCLC, allowing her to provide expert guidance on both complex nutritional needs and lactation care. Her academic and professional foundation positions her to address the full spectrum of patient care, from individualized nutrition counseling to research-based program development.

At Mass General Brigham, Roche combines clinical practice with research, creating and implementing interventions that support women and children at critical stages of life. Her focus on postpartum care includes individualized nutrition counseling, program development, and outcomes analysis. She recently completed a three-month training program at McGee Women’s Hospital at the University of Pittsburgh, where she trained clinicians on facilitating postpartum health interventions. Through this work, Roche ensures that evidence-based strategies are applied effectively in clinical and community settings, promoting health, wellness, and patient empowerment.

Complementing her hospital and research work, Roche’s private practice provides a personalized, patient-centered approach to nutrition and lactation. At North Shore Lactation and Nutrition, she helps families navigate breastfeeding, formula feeding, and nutrition challenges, building long-term relationships with patients to support their health and confidence. Her practice reflects a philosophy that early nourishment is foundational to lifelong health and that patient education and support are as essential as clinical interventions.

Beyond her clinical and research work, Roche is a dedicated educator, mentor, and advocate for inclusive healthcare. She actively lectures, trains, and contributes to professional organizations such as the Massachusetts Lactation Consultant Association, and she emphasizes advancing women’s health and bridging gaps in clinical research and practice. Outside of her professional commitments, she enjoys cooking, exploring food, vacationing, and supporting her sons’ athletic pursuits. Through her career, Roche has become a trusted expert in maternal and child health, making a lasting impact on patients, families, and the broader field of nutrition and lactation.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most is the combination of teamwork, mentorship, and the independence that comes with running my own practice. I value being able to manage my own schedule, select the clients and patients I work with, and follow their progress over time. In a hospital setting, you often care for patients during critical moments, but rarely get to see them afterward. In private practice, I have the opportunity to provide ongoing care, witness growth and progress, and build long-term relationships. Some of my clients I’ve worked with for over a decade, and being part of their journeys—watching babies thrive, families grow, and mothers succeed—has been incredibly rewarding. While I enjoy the energy and urgency of clinical and hospital settings, it’s the continuity of care and seeing tangible results over time that truly motivates me.
