William (Bill) Piet Salmon, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist dedicated to improving mental health outcomes through evidence-based treatment, compassionate care, and ongoing research. Based in Gillette, Wyoming, Dr. Salmon works with diverse patient populations facing complex psychiatric and neurological challenges, helping individuals restore resilience, stability, and quality of life. Dr. Salmon earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, graduating with Highest Honors and earning repeated recognition on the Dean’s Honor List. He completed his psychiatry residency at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine, a program known for its commitment to clinical excellence and service to underserved communities. During residency, he was selected as Co-Chief Resident and received the Intern of the Year award, distinctions that reflect his leadership, clinical judgment, and dedication to patient-centered care and medical education.

Throughout his career, Dr. Salmon has demonstrated strong academic and scholarly achievement. He represented his residency program at the American Psychiatric Association’s national MIND GAMES competition, where his team earned second place, showcasing his depth of psychiatric knowledge and collaborative skills. A committed researcher, he has contributed to more than 19 research projects and has presented findings at national and international conferences. His published work in health psychology and behavioral medicine explores the relationship between mental health, behavior, and overall well-being.

In addition to clinical practice and research, Dr. Salmon is an active educator and public speaker. He has led workshops and educational programs for healthcare students, veterans, and community members, focusing on anxiety management, suicide prevention, and emerging topics such as psychedelic medicine within responsible, evidence-informed frameworks. His teaching reflects a passion for translating complex scientific concepts into accessible knowledge that benefits both clinicians and the broader public.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Salmon is deeply committed to community service and mentorship. He served as a foster parent through Family and Child Services of Guelph and Wellington County, providing mental health support for youth and coordinating child and adolescent development workshops. He has also mentored medical students and contributed to educational initiatives in both virtual and in-person settings. Through clinical care, research, education, and community engagement, Dr. Salmon continues to advance compassionate psychiatry while promoting greater understanding and accessibility in mental health care.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I find the greatest reward in helping individuals navigate some of the most challenging moments in their lives. I strive to equip my patients with the tools they need to overcome these obstacles and to help them rediscover the beauty and potential that life has to offer.
