Willie J. Lett, MD, FACOG
Dr. Willie J. Lett, MD, FACOG, is a distinguished retired obstetrician and gynecologist whose career spans over 45 years of dedicated service to women’s health. Throughout his tenure, he delivered more than 8,500 babies with zero maternal deaths, reflecting his unwavering commitment to patient safety, clinical excellence, and compassionate care. Known for his ability to build meaningful doctor-patient relationships, Dr. Lett has consistently prioritized a patient-centered approach, combining expertise in obstetrics and gynecology with empathy, clear communication, and collaborative care. A leading advocate for maternal health, Dr. Lett has devoted significant efforts to addressing the Black maternal mortality crisis in the United States. He authored the book Can We Solve the Black Maternal Mortality Crisis: Yes "We" Can, available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, which shares insights from his decades of clinical experience and research. In addition, he has published scholarly work in The Grey Journal on antibiotics, highlighting his commitment to evidence-based medicine. His approach to care emphasizes preventive strategies, nutrition, and patient education, aiming to reduce pregnancy complications across all populations while empowering patients to take an active role in their health. Dr. Lett earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees from Knoxville College and Meharry Medical College, where he served as student body president and was an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Gamma Omicron Chapter. Since retiring from private practice in 2016, he has continued to contribute to the medical community and society through advocacy, mentorship, writing, and public education. Beyond medicine, he is skilled in communication, leadership, and public engagement, making him a respected voice in healthcare and a dedicated mentor to the next generation of physicians.
He is also a member of the Van Courtlandt Social Club, the second oldest continuously operating male Black social club in the USA at 115 years old and growing.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most about practicing medicine is helping my patients. Being able to guide them through health challenges, provide support, and see them achieve better outcomes is deeply rewarding. I find fulfillment in building trusting relationships, educating patients about their care, and making a positive impact on their overall well-being.
