Wael Saad, MD, FSIR

Dr. Wael Saad is an English-educated, American-trained American-Egyptian physician with over 30 years of clinical and academic experience in vascular and interventional radiology. Currently serving in a leadership role at the University of Utah as Professor and Director (Chief) of Interventional Radiology, he specializes in liver disease and transplantation. Dr. Saad is highly skilled in vascular and liver disorders, advanced imaging techniques, and the integration of medical devices into clinical practice, reflecting a career marked by both clinical excellence and innovative patient care.

Beyond his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Saad is a dedicated global health advocate, with 20 years of outreach experience focusing on Africa and the Middle East. He has co-founded multiple initiatives, including the Portal 360 Meeting, a multidisciplinary think tank and hands-on training convention for portal hypertension and liver disease, and SAFIRE (Society of African Interventional Radiology and Endovascular Therapy), where he served as the inaugural president. His work demonstrates a commitment to advancing interventional radiology education, collaboration, and practice on a global scale.

Dr. Saad’s professional journey combines entrepreneurship, research, and leadership. He has held senior positions at prestigious institutions including the NIH Clinical Center, and has co-founded symposia and scientific programs to foster innovation in endovascular therapy and image-guided procedures. Recognized for his expertise in interventional radiology, he continues to mentor the next generation of physicians, lead research initiatives, and expand access to cutting-edge vascular and liver care worldwide.
