Tara Wellman, HT (ASCP)

Tara Wellman is an experienced Histology Technician with over 20 years of expertise in cytology, histology, and laboratory diagnostics. She is highly skilled in specimen preparation, microscopic evaluation, and accurate reporting of test results, including abnormal specimens and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Her technical proficiency also includes immunofluorescence techniques on skin and kidney tissue, as well as strong knowledge of laboratory diagnostic equipment and advanced medical terminology.

She currently works at Labcorp in Syracuse, New York, where she continues to apply her expertise in cytology and grossing, supporting laboratory workflows and ensuring high-quality specimen processing. In this role, she is trained to assist across multiple laboratory functions as needed, demonstrating adaptability and a strong commitment to clinical excellence and efficiency.

Previously, Tara served as a Grossing Technician at Adirondack Health in Saranac Lake, where she handled a wide range of cytology and histology responsibilities, including Pap smears, non-gynecological specimens, fine needle aspirations, bone marrow samples, and small biopsy grossing. She also worked at Laboratory Alliance of Central New York, where she advanced to Senior Histotechnician, contributing to procedural writing, quality control, immunohistochemistry preparation, and rotation through special stains and routine histology workflows.

Tara also has extensive travel experience as a Histotechnician, working with multiple healthcare organizations across several states, where she processed high volumes of slides and supported laboratories with varying diagnostic needs. Her earlier long-term role at SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital further strengthened her technical foundation, where she performed embedding, microtomy, staining, special stains, and IHC work while expanding her responsibilities into multiple laboratory functions.

She holds a Histology Technician Degree and is certified as a Histology Technician through ASCP (HT). Tara also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Health and Wellness from SUNY Oswego. Throughout her career, she has built a reputation for precision, strong ethical standards, quality control expertise, and dedication to continuous learning and laboratory excellence.
