Dr. Shumokh Alanazi is a clinical pharmacist with a strong foundation in both international and U.S.-based pharmacy practice. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from Western University of Health Sciences in 2025 after completing her Bachelor of Pharmacy in Saudi Arabia. Her academic and professional journey reflects a consistent focus on clinical excellence, patient safety, and advancing pharmaceutical care across diverse healthcare systems.

During her training, Dr. Alanazi completed extensive clinical rotations across multiple healthcare settings, including inpatient hospital pharmacy, ambulatory care, community pharmacy, compounding, and mail-order pharmacy. She trained at institutions such as Adventist Health Glendale, St. Mary’s Medical Center, and community settings including CVS Pharmacy. These experiences allowed her to develop strong competencies in medication therapy management (MTM), immunizations, anticoagulation support, antimicrobial stewardship, and patient counseling.

Her professional interests are deeply rooted in clinical research and pharmaceutical innovation. She has contributed to several academic and scientific projects, including studies on acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), cardiovascular pharmacogenetics, bacterial meningitis management, and novel pharmaceutical formulations such as a Reishi mushroom–based topical eye mask. She has also presented research at institutional and international forums, demonstrating her commitment to advancing evidence-based pharmacy practice.

In her current practice as a clinical pharmacist in community and retail settings, Dr. Alanazi focuses on patient-centered care, medication verification, and comprehensive medication consultations. She regularly engages with patients to ensure they understand their therapies, improve adherence, and reduce medication-related risks. Her work emphasizes clear communication and proactive intervention to enhance overall treatment outcomes and patient safety.

Dr. Alanazi is currently pursuing advanced career development opportunities, including pharmacy residency training with a focus on oncology pharmacy and further graduate studies in health administration. Motivated by a personal experience involving a medication error within her family, she is passionate about preventing similar outcomes for others. She is also committed to expanding representation of women in pharmacy, particularly inspired by her background growing up in Saudi Arabia, where female participation in the field was historically limited.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most about my practice is seeing patients leave the pharmacy feeling satisfied, supported, and safe. I value creating an environment where patients feel comfortable expressing their concerns and asking questions without hesitation. It is especially meaningful to me when patients feel heard and understood, and when I am able to provide the guidance and support they need. I take time to review each of their medications with them, ensuring they understand what each medication is for and how to use it correctly. My goal is always to promote safety, clarity, and confidence in their treatment.
