Philip Bower, LICSW
Philip Bower is the Founder and Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker of Authentic Arch Counseling, a telehealth private practice grounded in identity-affirming, trauma-informed mental health care. He brings approximately nine years of experience in counseling and psychotherapy, providing outpatient, hospital-based, and telehealth services to adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, identity development, relationship challenges, and complex life transitions. His clinical work is rooted in evidence-based practice and a strong commitment to supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals, as well as those who are polyamorous and engaged in kink-affirming care. He also specializes in gender identity exploration, men’s mental health, and veterans’ health.
He has spent the past several years building and expanding his private practice, which began in Washington and is now growing into Massachusetts, where he has practiced in private practice settings for approximately three and a half years. The name Authentic Arch Counseling reflects his clinical philosophy of helping clients explore who they are in the present while making sense of the stories and experiences that have shaped them. He describes his work as walking alongside clients as they develop a clearer understanding of themselves and their values. His therapeutic approach is warm, direct, and trauma-responsive, integrating modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness-based interventions, motivational interviewing, and polyvagal-informed care. In addition to psychotherapy, he provides clinical supervision and supports early-career clinicians in strengthening documentation, treatment planning, and ethical clinical practice. He is also the author of The Threshold Reset Workbook, available on Amazon.
Looking ahead, he plans to continue expanding his clinical and organizational leadership work. Over the next five years, he envisions developing Trio Therapy, a group private practice extending from Washington and beyond, where he will serve as center director alongside trusted colleagues. He also plans to establish a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing low-cost or free therapy for LGBTQ+ communities while training and mentoring social workers entering the field. In addition, he aims to publish multiple books—up to five works total—and engage in lectures and professional speaking focused on trauma-informed care, identity development, and improving access to mental health services. Across all of these goals, his work remains centered on increasing access to affirming care and supporting individuals in building more authentic, sustainable lives.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I enjoy practicing medicine because it allows me to walk alongside my clients as they explore and better understand who they are in the present moment. I find deep meaning in supporting them as they make sense of their experiences and the personal stories they carry from the past. This approach is also central to the work I do through my company, Authentic Arch, which reflects my commitment to helping individuals uncover their current identity and lived narrative. Ultimately, the most rewarding part of my work is being present with clients in that process of growth, insight, and self-discovery.
