Neeka Levy is a Registered Nurse with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Health System and is just graduating with her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner studies from The Johns Hopkins University. Based in Vancouver, Washington, she has built her clinical career in veteran-focused care while advancing her expertise in psychiatric mental health at the doctoral level. Her work reflects a strong commitment to improving mental health systems and delivering patient-centered, evidence-informed care.

Neeka began her nursing career after earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. She worked inpatient at the VA, where she repeatedly observed gaps and fragmentation within the system that limited the level of care she wanted to provide. Those experiences motivated her to pursue advanced practice education so she could better address the root causes of psychiatric illness and expand her ability to support patients in a more comprehensive and meaningful way. She is also trained in functional medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine, which shapes her integrative approach to care.

Neeka’s clinical philosophy centers on root-cause psychiatry, incorporating nutritional psychiatry, gut health and dysbiosis, hormonal balance, and lifestyle medicine alongside traditional psychiatric evaluation and treatment. She conducts extended, in-depth intakes often up to two hours to fully understand medical, psychological, developmental, and environmental history, including early-life and in utero influences when relevant. She incorporates comprehensive lab work and emphasizes shared decision-making, ensuring patients are fully informed and actively engaged in their treatment plans. Her approach is flexible, individualized, and often includes dietary and lifestyle interventions such as whole-food or ketogenic strategies when appropriate. She also collaborates with her partner, a psychologist, through a nonprofit initiative and is exploring transitioning her practice into that integrated model of care.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

Watching clients reconnect with themselves and become who they’ve always had the capacity to be. I value being able to support that process through both evidence-based psychiatry and a deeper, root-cause approach to healing.
