Naomi Sylvia Smith, RN
Naomi Sylvia Smith, RN, is a dedicated registered nurse with nearly six years of clinical experience across a wide range of healthcare specialties, including geriatrics, pediatrics, wound care, medical-surgical nursing, school nursing, and home health care. Her diverse professional background reflects both her passion for lifelong learning and her deep commitment to compassionate patient care.
Naomi earned her Registered Nurse degree from Ranger College in Brownwood, Texas, after taking a unique and inspiring path into healthcare. Prior to becoming a nurse, she spent more than 20 years working in education, including teaching and working with Sylvan Learning Center. Although she initially pursued nursing studies at Angelo State University, personal hardships following the loss of her mother temporarily redirected her path. She later completed a Bachelor of Teaching degree and devoted two decades to supporting students and families before returning to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse at the age of 45.
Her nursing career began during the COVID-19 pandemic at Hendrick Hospital in Brownwood, Texas, where she worked in medical-surgical nursing under unprecedented circumstances. Despite the challenges of pandemic-era nursing education and restricted clinical opportunities, Naomi persevered, developing hands-on skills in demanding healthcare environments and successfully passing her nursing boards during a highly difficult period for the profession.
Over the past three years, Naomi has focused primarily on geriatric nursing within long-term care settings, where she recently advanced into the role of wound care nurse. She holds certifications in wound care and diabetic Medicare care, allowing her to provide specialized treatment and support for patients with complex healing needs. She is now expanding her practice into pediatric home health care with Angels of Care, where she will care for medically complex children requiring advanced support such as G-tube management.
Originally from Brady, Texas — known as the “Heart of Texas” and the “Deer Capital of the World” — Naomi comes from a remarkable family of 22 children, including 16 adopted and 6 biological siblings. Nursing and caregiving have long been central to her family life. Her mother served as a labor and delivery nurse, and several of her siblings have also pursued careers in nursing, providing strong role models and inspiration throughout her journey.
Faith and compassion are central to Naomi’s approach to patient care. She believes deeply in bringing encouragement, positivity, and spiritual comfort into her work, striving to uplift patients and families during difficult moments. Looking ahead, Naomi plans to continue advancing her education by earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing through Grand Canyon University, with future goals of becoming a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What's real exciting about nursing is there's many different fields in nursing - so many different opportunities to explore. But the best part about what I've done in nursing is I can bring Jesus into it. The best part of my nursing career is being allowed to just bring Jesus into the day, just sing and be happy and bring good cheer. I started in geriatric care after my father died because I just needed to learn more about geriatric care to get my questions answered, and it helped fill the void in my life. I've loved every minute of it. Being able to use Jesus in my healing career, honestly, it's the best medicine.
