Dr. Michael B. Sorenson is an Industrial Organizational Psychologist whose work bridges behavioral science, healthcare systems, organizational development, and employee wellness. Based in Chesapeake, Virginia, he specializes in creating evidence-based programs that improve organizational effectiveness while supporting the mental and emotional well-being of both employees and patients. With a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Keiser University-Ft Lauderdale and a master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Capella University, Dr. Sorenson has built a multidisciplinary career focused on leadership development, behavioral health, change management, data analysis, and workforce engagement.

Most recently, Dr. Sorenson served as an Industrial Organizational Psychologist with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at the VA hospital in Dublin, Georgia, where he participated in the Health Professional Education Evaluation Research (HPEER) fellowship program. In this role, he worked directly with hospital leadership to evaluate organizational performance, improve provider onboarding and retention, and develop innovative wellness initiatives for veterans and healthcare employees. One of his most impactful projects was creating a whole health program that incorporated Tai Chi, yoga, mindfulness, and stress-reduction practices designed to improve heart rate variability and reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD among veterans. He also helped redesign orientation and mentoring programs for medical providers to improve efficiency, engagement, and long-term retention within the VA healthcare system.

Throughout his career, Dr. Sorenson has remained deeply committed to helping individuals and organizations thrive through education, behavioral research, and compassionate leadership. His professional experience includes working with children and young adults with autism and Down syndrome through organizations such as Plan Bee Academy, First Home Care Therapeutic, and A.C.E.S, where he focused on behavioral intervention, family education, and developmental support. Combining expertise in organizational psychology, healthcare operations, Lean Six Sigma, and behavioral science, Dr. Sorenson continues to pursue opportunities where he can drive meaningful change, strengthen workplace culture, and improve outcomes for both organizations and the people they serve.
