Michael B. Guess, DDS, MS, MA
Dr. Michael Guess is a highly respected orthodontist with more than 36 years of clinical experience dedicated to advancing patient care, orthodontic innovation, and education. Based in El Dorado Hills, California, he founded his orthodontic practice on his birthday and has built a reputation for combining cutting-edge treatment methods with personalized, patient-centered care. Dr. Guess specializes in the Hybrid orthodontic system, an innovative approach that strategically combines lab appliances for expansion or sagittal correction with braces and finishing aligners to maximize the strengths of each modality. This method has helped reduce average treatment times from approximately 30 months to 21 months while maintaining exceptional treatment quality and attention to detail.
Dr. Guess earned his undergraduate degree from University of California, Davis, his dental degree from University of California, San Francisco, and completed his orthodontic specialty training at The Ohio State University. In addition to holding two master’s degrees, he also earned a certificate in dental acupuncture from University of California, Los Angeles, where he later served as an instructor. Internationally recognized for his expertise, Dr. Guess has lectured extensively across the United States and abroad, including presentations in China and at Harvard, speaking on topics such as dental acupuncture for pain management, orthodontic finishing techniques, facial expansion, and efficient Invisalign and Hybrid treatment systems. He also serves as a Key Opinion Leader for Dynaflex Corporation and previously held leadership roles as Past President and e-sign editor for the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Beyond traditional orthodontics, Dr. Guess is deeply passionate about airway health, facial development, and improving quality of life through proper jaw expansion and breathing optimization. He has developed innovative measurement techniques aimed at determining ideal jaw width to support healthier airflow, potentially reducing issues such as snoring, sleep apnea, childhood bedwetting, and developmental concerns in children. In addition, he has formulated more than 130 homeopathic products addressing wellness concerns ranging from pain relief and relaxation to allergies and anti-aging support. Committed to giving back, Dr. Guess is currently working to establish a nonprofit organization focused on providing orthodontic and dental care to children up to age 18, with the goal of making high-quality treatment accessible to families who might otherwise go without care.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most is giving children confidence and transforming their lives through orthodontic care. There's nothing better than giving a child confidence when he's got four buck teeth, and you line them up, and his face changes, and he has this wonderful smile. I saw a girl yesterday who we finished, and she's got this nice, broad smile, and she lights up the room, and her mom almost cries when she smiles because it's changed so much. That's something - you've given a gift to somebody to help them, and it gives them confidence. They know they look good, they feel good. I also love that my staff has been with me for over 20 years, and we have our system down so that we're constantly getting the same result for every person without mistakes or flubs. That consistency is a big deal for us.
