Louise Starr, RN
Louise Starr is a dedicated nurse with over 30 years of experience in the healthcare field, including more than two decades specializing in geriatric care. She currently serves as a Charge Nurse at Lubbock LTC Nursing and Rehabilitation in Lubbock, Texas, where she provides compassionate, hands-on care for long-term care residents and supports both patients and their families through complex health needs.
She began her nursing career in 1988 after completing her Licensed Vocational Nurse training at South Plains College. Early in her career, she worked in a medical-surgical hospital setting before transitioning into long-term care, where she discovered her true passion for geriatrics. Over the years, she has also gained experience in home health care, including working with medically compromised pediatric patients, further broadening her clinical expertise.
Louise is known for her deep commitment to her residents, whom she views as extended family. She has cared for individuals with a wide range of conditions, including stroke recovery, C. difficile infections, and chronic long-term illnesses. Her ability to build strong relationships with both residents and their families has made her a trusted and valued presence in the facility. In recognition of her excellence in care, she received the Merit Root Care Award in 2023.
Throughout her career, Louise has demonstrated remarkable resilience and dedication, continuing to work despite personal health challenges, including back surgery and an atrial fibrillation diagnosis. Returning to her patients just weeks after surgery reflects her strong sense of purpose and commitment. For Louise, nursing is not just a profession, but a calling rooted in compassion, connection, and a lifelong dedication to caring for others.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most about nursing is building meaningful relationships with my residents and being able to support them in a way that truly impacts their daily lives. It is incredibly rewarding to walk into work and see their faces light up, knowing that I am there to care for them and spend time with them. I take pride in developing strong rapport with each resident and treating them as extended family.
I feel a deep calling to be present with my geriatric patients, and I often feel that something is missing when I am away from them. For me, nursing is not just a job—it is a commitment to being there for those who need care, especially residents who may not have family or visitors. The most meaningful part of my work is not what I receive, but what I am able to give through compassion, presence, and genuine care.
