Kathleen C. Voigt is a highly experienced certified family and adult nurse practitioner with nearly 50 years of experience in nursing and advanced clinical practice. She began her healthcare journey at the age of 16 as a Red Cross volunteer and has since dedicated her life to patient care, professional development, and advancing nursing practice across multiple healthcare settings, including emergent care, chronic disease management, and preventive health services.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Michigan University and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She later completed both Adult Nurse Practitioner certification at the University of Washington and Family Nurse Practitioner certification at Washington State University. Demonstrating a continued commitment to academic and clinical excellence, she ultimately earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Rush University.

Throughout her career, she has practiced in a wide range of clinical environments, including emergency medicine, post-acute care, and complex inpatient and outpatient settings. She also served in support of the United States Department of Defense and State Department missions in the Middle East from 2011 to 2016, including multiple deployments to Iraq, where she contributed to healthcare operations in high-acuity and resource-challenged environments.

In addition to her clinical work, she has led impactful public health initiatives, including the development and implementation of a federally and state-funded program focused on reducing obesity in high-risk Latino pre-K children. This initiative, completed as part of her doctoral work, was presented internationally in Germany, New York, and San Francisco, highlighting her commitment to innovation, education, and community health improvement.

Currently, she continues to expand her expertise through advanced education in healthcare innovation, including artificial intelligence in medicine through Harvard. She is a member of professional organizations such as the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the International Nurses Association. Throughout her distinguished career, she has been recognized for her leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to improving outcomes for patients and underserved populations.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

It has been an opportunity of great reward to serve those most in need and hopefully make a postive difference in their life. I have been fortunate to learn from exceptional clinicians who mentored me through out the years.
