Juliana DeBattista
Juliana Debattista is a neonatal intensive care nurse with extensive bedside experience in high-acuity pediatric and neonatal care. She currently works at Stanford Children’s Health at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford in Redwood City, where she has dedicated her career to supporting critically ill newborns and their families during some of the most vulnerable moments of life.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from San Francisco State University, following an earlier Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Physiology from Sonoma State University. Her strong academic foundation, combined with early clinical exposure through emergency department volunteering and pediatric care experiences, helped shape her path toward neonatal nursing.
Juliana began her nursing career in pediatric and community-based settings, including roles as a pediatric school nurse and registered nurse in pediatric day healthcare. She later transitioned into neonatal intensive care, where she discovered her true professional calling. She has since built over seven years of NICU experience, including prior work at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose before joining Stanford Children’s Health.
Her professional credentials include RN, BSN, and RNC-NIC certification, along with specialized training in neonatal touch and massage. She is also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), reflecting her commitment to supporting maternal-infant bonding and breastfeeding success. In addition, she is actively involved in professional organizations such as the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN).
Juliana is deeply passionate about caring for newborns and supporting families through critical and emotional stages of life. Inspired by her family’s medical background, she chose nursing to make a meaningful difference at the beginning of life. She hopes to continue her bedside NICU work while further integrating lactation consulting into her practice, with long-term goals of expanding services to support families in both hospital and community settings.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most about my work is the privilege of supporting families during one of the most meaningful and vulnerable moments of their lives. Being present at the beginning of a baby’s life and helping families through that journey is something I consider truly special. Not everyone gets to be part of those moments, and I feel deeply grateful for that role. One of the most rewarding parts of my practice is seeing the long-term progress of the babies we care for—receiving a postcard or holiday card years later and seeing them healthy and thriving is incredibly meaningful and reminds me why I do this work. I especially value caring for women and children during these important life stages.
