Jessica “Jay” Strickland, LPN, is a Clinical Nurse Supervisor specializing in nephrology at the Renalus Center for Kidney Care in Pensacola, Florida. With over 11 years of nursing experience and more than 5 years in her current leadership role, she oversees daily clinical operations and manages a multidisciplinary team of clinical and administrative staff. Her responsibilities include coordinating patient care activities, supporting complex infusion therapies such as Cytoxan, Rituxan, Epogen, and blood transfusions, reviewing critical lab results, and collaborating closely with providers and dialysis units to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered kidney care.

Jessica’s career in healthcare spans over 18 years, with a strong foundation in both clinical practice and operational leadership. She has worked across multiple specialties including nephrology, family medicine, OB/GYN, plasmapheresis, and home health care, allowing her to develop a well-rounded and adaptable approach to patient care. In addition to her current supervisory role, she has extensive experience working with EMR systems such as Epic and is highly skilled in clinical documentation, quality control processes, regulatory compliance, and care coordination across multidisciplinary teams.

Her passion for nephrology is deeply personal and stems from lived experience. Jessica’s dedication to kidney care was shaped by her time caring for her mother and sister, both of whom battled kidney disease and underwent dialysis prior to their passing. These profound experiences strengthened her commitment to patient advocacy, education, and compassionate care. She is especially driven to help patients and families better understand chronic kidney disease and to support them through every stage of their treatment journey with empathy and clear communication.

Jessica earned her Practical Nursing diploma from Jones College in Ellisville, Mississippi, and holds an associate’s degree in General Studies from Pearl River Community College. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Education and Administration at William Carey University, where she has been recognized on the Dean’s List for academic excellence. Outside of her clinical work, she is actively involved in community service, including quarterly volunteer support for the Waterfront Mission, an organization dedicated to assisting individuals experiencing homelessness.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most about nursing is the ability to help people and educate them. It gives me such a sense of fulfillment when we're able to explain things to patients and help them, going above and beyond. I have such a close drawing to healthcare because I had a mother and sister who were both very ill with kidney disease and ended up on dialysis. Wanting to help people and educate people has always been my top goal. Life in general, my family, and taking care of them has motivated me to stay in healthcare and try to do the same for others, to advocate for them. It's about making a meaningful difference in their lives.
