Holly has devoted more than four decades to caring for patients and supporting the healthcare community with compassion, dedication, and a deep commitment to improving quality of life for the elderly. Based in Manheim, she currently serves as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Alpine Valley Rehab, where she specializes in dementia care within a dedicated memory care unit. Throughout her career, Newburn has remained passionate about providing compassionate, patient-centered care while continually striving to grow professionally in order to better serve those who depend on her expertise and support.

Newburn’s healthcare journey began in 1982 when she started working as a nurse’s aide in long-term care, an experience that solidified her passion for working with geriatric patients. After six years of hands-on caregiving experience, she pursued formal nursing education at Lebanon Tech Career Center, earning her Licensed Practical Nurse credential in the mid-1990s. Determined to continue advancing her knowledge and leadership skills, she later obtained her Personal Care Health Administration certification through Penn State University. Her commitment to professional development has remained a defining characteristic throughout her long and respected career in nursing.

Over the years, Newburn has gained experience across multiple areas of healthcare, including long-term care, rehabilitation, home health, cardiology, and personal care administration. During the 1990s, she spent several years working in cardiology, where she trained and mentored new staff members as cardiology technicians, helping guide the next generation of healthcare professionals. More recently, her work has focused heavily on dementia and geriatric care, where she has developed a reputation for patience, empathy, and strong clinical support for both residents and their families. Her leadership experience has also included recruiting and mentoring medication technicians and caregiving staff, reflecting her dedication to building positive and supportive care environments.

Throughout every stage of her career, Newburn has remained motivated by a simple but powerful goal: to provide the highest possible quality of care to the people she serves. She believes that working with elderly patients is both deeply challenging and profoundly rewarding, and she continues to approach her work with compassion, resilience, and a strong sense of purpose. Through decades of service in nursing and long-term care, she has made a lasting impact on countless patients, families, and colleagues while continuing to advocate for dignity, respect, and excellence in patient care.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most about nursing is working with the elderly. I've always had a passion for this population, which is why I started out in long-term care and worked as a nurse's aide for six years before becoming a licensed nurse. Even though working on a dementia unit can be challenging, as I mentioned, the work is deeply meaningful to me. If you want to be in medicine, you accept that it comes with the territory, including working weekends and facing daily challenges, but the opportunity to care for elderly patients makes it all worthwhile.
