What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
My reward comes from my patients. I have had patients and their family tell me I care past the typical nurse. For me, that's my reward! When I work with hospice patients or people going through personal issues, I make sure they look good if it's important to them. We're so caught up in the medical side, we forget what makes a person feel good. To have their nails painted, hair shampooed and conditioned and combed can bolster happiness. I tell my patients, I'm sorry if I'm detailing your hair too much, that was my first life. Some family and/ or staff will come in the morning and notice somebody's been doing the patients hair. Yes, we try and make sure we look at everything it takes to make them feel human, even on the night shift.
