Dionne Rice, MSN, RN., Registered Nurse (Oncology Nurse) on Americas Best In Medicine

Dionne Rice, RN, MSN, is a dedicated registered nurse whose professional journey is defined by resilience, compassion, and lifelong learning. Since 2021, she has built a strong foundation in patient-centered care across Emergency Department and Mental Health nursing, recently transitioning within the past year into oncology care, where she now supports patients and families through cancer diagnoses with empathy and clinical expertise.

Before becoming a registered nurse, Dionne spent eight years working as a Certified Hemodialysis Technician, gaining extensive experience caring for patients with chronic and complex medical conditions. At the age of 50, after raising her three children, she made the courageous decision to pursue nursing as a new career path, driven by a desire to expand her impact in healthcare.

Throughout her nursing career, Dionne has worked across multiple specialties, including emergency and psychiatric nursing, before finding her growing passion in oncology. In her current oncology role, she values the trust placed in her by patients and is committed to delivering care that is both technically skilled and emotionally supportive.

Dionne earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Rasmussen University and her Master of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University. She is currently pursuing her Family Nurse Practitioner degree at Western Governors University, expected to graduate in December 2027. In addition to her clinical work, she is beginning to mentor nursing students and teach clinical skills, further strengthening her commitment to education and professional development.

Looking ahead, Dionne is passionate about advancing into family practice and healthcare advocacy. She envisions opening her own practice focused on serving underserved and economically disadvantaged populations, improving access to quality care. Her career reflects a deep commitment to treating every patient with dignity, compassion, and the same care she would extend to her own family.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I find the most meaningful part of practicing nursing to be the relationships I build with my patients and the trust they place in me during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I believe my greatest strength in this role is my patience, which allows me to remain present, attentive, and compassionate even in difficult situations. One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is when a patient takes a moment—despite their pain or circumstances—to express appreciation. Those moments remind me that I am making a difference and affirm that I am serving my patients well.
