Dionne Rice, Registered Nurse (Oncology Nurse) on Americas Best In Medicine

Dionne Rice, RN, MSN, is a dedicated registered nurse specializing in oncology and women’s health, with a professional journey defined by resilience, compassion, and lifelong learning. Since entering the nursing profession in 2021, she has built a strong foundation in patient-centered care, supporting individuals and families through some of the most challenging moments in their healthcare journeys. Her approach is grounded in empathy, patience, and a deep commitment to treating every patient with dignity and respect.

Before becoming a registered nurse, Dionne spent eight years working as a Certified Hemodialysis Technician, where she gained extensive experience caring for patients with chronic and complex medical conditions. At the age of 50, after raising her three children, she made the courageous decision to pursue nursing as a new career path. Her transition into nursing was driven by a strong desire to expand her impact in healthcare and provide more comprehensive care to patients in need.

After becoming a nurse, Dionne explored a variety of specialties, including emergency department and psychiatric nursing, before finding her true calling in oncology. In this role, she has spent the past year caring for patients facing cancer diagnoses, recognizing the emotional and clinical complexity of oncology nursing. She values the trust placed in her by patients and strives to provide care that is both technically skilled and emotionally supportive during every stage of treatment.

Dionne earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Rasmussen University and later completed her Master of Science in Nursing at Chamberlain University. She is currently pursuing her Family Nurse Practitioner degree at Western Governors University, with an expected graduation in December 2027. In addition to her clinical practice, she is beginning to teach clinical skills to nursing students, marking an important step in her commitment to education and mentorship.

Looking ahead, Dionne is passionate about expanding her impact in healthcare through advanced practice and advocacy. She envisions opening her own practice focused on serving underserved and economically disadvantaged populations, with the goal of improving access to quality care. Her career reflects a deep belief in treating every patient as she would her own family, and her work continues to be guided by compassion, service, and a commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I find the most meaningful part of practicing nursing to be the relationships I build with my patients and the trust they place in me during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I believe my greatest strength in this role is my patience, which allows me to remain present, attentive, and compassionate even in difficult situations. One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is when a patient takes a moment—despite their pain or circumstances—to express appreciation. Those moments remind me that I am making a difference and affirm that I am serving my patients well.
