She earned her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, in 1996 and began her career in 1998. Early in her practice, she worked as a Chemical Dependency Counselor, obtaining her CDP license in 2002—the same year she became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington State. Dr. Hanson’s career includes extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as nearly eight years in community mental health at Spokane Mental Health, later known as Frontier Behavioral Health. Her commitment to ongoing professional growth led her to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology after relocating to California, where she completed her internship at the Hume Center in Richmond and successfully defended her dissertation on forgiveness in 2024, receiving her Psy.D. in January 2025 from Alliant International University.
Throughout her career, Dr. Hanson has provided culturally sensitive and comprehensive behavioral health services across diverse populations. She has developed expertise in dialectical behavior therapy, anger management, crisis intervention, and holistic mental health care. Her work emphasizes empathy, practical skill-building, and evidence-based interventions, helping individuals and couples navigate life challenges and achieve emotional resilience. She has maintained her Washington State license since 2002 and currently provides telehealth services, enabling her to extend care to clients regardless of location.
Dr. Hanson believes that people do the best they understand to do in life and considers it a privilege to accompany them on their journey toward mental wellness. She is passionate about modeling empathy, compassion, and self-reflection while fostering healthier relationships and emotional growth.
