What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I'm all about being present for the abandoned, abused child and those affected by trafficking and foster care. I loved doing in-home visits for children and adolescents who are having a hard time. When I became a clinical director in South Georgia doing interventional family therapy, it was challenging because you worked in a lot of situations that just would make you cry, but I loved the children, I loved the kids, and I did whatever I could to help them. My main objective in life has always been to listen, to learn, to be compassionate, and to provide unconditional positive regard for everybody I meet. When you're in the helping field, you know, I would get physically sick if I didn't make a difference. I like to be hands-on and provide provisions for children. It's just something in our DNA - we can't sit still, we have to be helping people, we have to be doing stuff.
