Dr. Lamb earned her medical degree from East Tennessee State University. She completed her internal medicine residency and pulmonary/critical care fellowship at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, where she also served as an attending physician on active duty. She later pursued advanced subspecialty training in interventional pulmonology at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, becoming one of the first women in the United States to complete a formal fellowship in this emerging field.
Throughout her career, Dr. Lamb has been actively involved in clinical research focused on minimally invasive diagnostic techniques, bronchial thermoplasty for asthma, malignant pleural effusions, and the early detection of lung cancer through biomarker development in collaboration with institutions such as MIT. She has also contributed significantly to the advancement of simulation-based education in bronchoscopy, developing validated training and assessment tools used in procedural education.
Dr. Lamb is a recognized leader in interventional pulmonology and currently serves as President of the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (AABIP). She is also a co-founder of Women in Interventional Pulmonology (WiIP), where she advocates for increased representation and leadership opportunities for women in the specialty. What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I enjoy the ability to offer patients comprehensive options for care, from early detection to advanced therapeutic procedures. Interventional pulmonology allows me to perform minimally invasive procedures that directly impact patient outcomes, whether diagnosing small lung nodules or treating thoracic malignancies. It is deeply rewarding to see the tangible difference these procedures make in a patient’s life.
