What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I love seeing people come out on the other side. I've worked from corrections to behavioral health, and I want to provide the care people deserve. I have my own backstory with this industry, which creates a deeper level of understanding. I've been sober for 26 years after going to rehab in my early twenties for alcohol, and my sister has major depressive disorder and has attempted suicide multiple times. That's my passion - helping people through traumatic events and providing trauma-informed care. Because I've been there, you know? You see so much bad stuff in your career as a trauma nurse, and your body remembers these things. You have to compartmentalize when you're doing your job, you can't take the time to process. So that's part of my passion too - I get to help people through this mental health route and hopefully inspire people that they can get sober and stay sober, and that life without drugs and alcohol is infinitely better.
