Angela Peters, APRN, PMHNP-C, DNP Candidate is the founder of Northern Lights Psychiatry Services, LLP and brings more than 26 years of healthcare experience to her work as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Her diverse clinical background spans maternal health, primary care, corrections, substance use treatment, and psychiatric care, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of the biological, psychological, and social factors that influence mental wellness.

Angela is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree at Herzing University, where she is further advancing her expertise in evidence-based psychiatric care and improving outcomes for individuals with complex mental health conditions.

Early in her career, Angela spent many years working in labor and delivery and postpartum home visitation programs, supporting women and families through pregnancy, childbirth, and the transition to parenthood. These experiences fostered a deep appreciation for the unique mental health challenges women face across the lifespan and established the foundation for her ongoing commitment to women's mental health and family-centered care.

She later expanded her practice into correctional healthcare, detoxification services, and inpatient psychiatric settings, caring for individuals with severe mental illness, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions. Through these roles, she developed extensive experience in crisis intervention, psychiatric assessment, medication management, and collaborative treatment planning.

Today, Angela leads Northern Lights Psychiatry Services in Bedford, New Hampshire, where she provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and medication management for children, adolescents, and adults. Her areas of clinical interest include women's mental health, adolescent psychiatry, ADHD, mood and anxiety disorders, postpartum mental health, and dual-diagnosis treatment for individuals navigating both mental health and substance use challenges.

Angela has also developed a specialized interest in treatment-resistant depression and innovative psychiatric treatments. She offers ketamine and Spravato therapy and plans to expand services to include Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). As a doctoral candidate, her scholarly work focuses on improving the early identification and treatment of individuals with treatment-resistant depression through measurement-based care and evidence-based interventions.

Known for her compassionate and collaborative approach, Angela believes that effective psychiatric care extends beyond symptom management. She partners with patients to develop individualized treatment plans that promote resilience, healing, and long-term wellbeing, while honoring each person's unique experiences, strengths, and goals.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I love being able to support individuals who are struggling with mental health challenges and help them find a path toward healing and stability. My own personal experiences with mental health struggles led me back to school and ultimately inspired my career in psychiatry. I also experienced a period of substance use challenges, and through that journey I was able to make meaningful changes in my life and regain my direction. That experience reinforced for me that recovery is possible and that people do not have to remain stuck in their circumstances. I believe that many of life’s challenges carry purpose, and that what we often see as mistakes can become powerful lessons that support growth, resilience, and transformation.
