Zhaneta Zimmer, MD, FACP
Zhaneta Zimmer, MD, FACP is an Attending Physician in Infectious Diseases at VHC Health in Arlington, Virginia, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She brings a global foundation of medical training and leadership to her work in clinical care, academic mentorship, and advancing health outcomes across diverse patient populations.
Dr. Zimmer earned her medical degree from the Medical University of Sofia in Bulgaria and went on to complete an internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the Military Medical Academy, where she served as Chief of Ward in Intensive Care. After relocating to the United States, she continued her postgraduate training with an internal medicine residency at Providence Health System/George Washington University Hospital, where she was appointed Chief Resident and recognized with the Resident Excellence Award.
She later completed her Infectious Diseases fellowship at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital before joining the VHC Health Physicians – Infectious Diseases group in 2022. Her clinical and academic work reflects a strong interest in the interplay between infection and cardiovascular disease, as well as dedicated expertise in HIV, global and tropical health, and complex inpatient care. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and an active member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
Fluent in English and Bulgarian, Dr. Zimmer enjoys teaching medical students and residents and fostering the next generation of clinicians. Outside of medicine, she loves traveling, attending live theater, and spending time with her husband and son.

What I enjoy most about practicing medicine is seeing patients at the end of their journey and knowing that their lives have been changed for the better. Being part of their transformation is what motivates me every day.
