William Piet Salmon, MD
Dr. William Salmon, MD, is a dedicated psychiatrist with Campbell County Health Behavioral Health Services in Gillette, Wyoming, committed to providing compassionate, comprehensive mental health care. He joined the team in 2024, bringing thoughtful clinical expertise shaped by his medical training, mentorship experiences, and longstanding interest in human behavior and emotional well-being.
Originally from Canada, Dr. Salmon has lived in metropolitan areas including Atlanta, Miami, and Greenville, NC, before choosing Gillette for its tight-knit community and abundant outdoor opportunities. He and his wife, Dr. Alexandra McClenahan, a family medicine physician, enjoy exploring Wyoming’s natural beauty with their son and fully embracing the region’s active lifestyle, including camping, hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, dirt biking, and running.
Dr. Salmon’s path to psychiatry began with an undergraduate Honors degree in psychology. Initially planning to pursue a PhD in clinical therapy, a mentor introduced him to the biological and medical foundations of behavioral health, inspiring him to blend therapeutic connection with medical knowledge as a psychiatrist. He served as Chief Resident during his psychiatry residency, earning recognition for leadership and clinical excellence.
He finds the greatest fulfillment in building meaningful relationships with his patients and guiding them toward improved well-being. “When you build a relationship with a patient and help them experience real progress in their mental health, that’s truly rewarding,” he says. Dr. Salmon values understanding each patient’s unique needs while fostering support and care, aiming to break down the stigmas surrounding mental health.
Inspired by his parents and family to act with compassion, and supported by his wife’s example of care, Dr. Salmon is dedicated to improving the lives of those in his community while promoting holistic, empathetic mental health care.
