Timothy Knittle II, MD

Dr. Timothy Knittle is a compassionate general practitioner in his first year of practice following residency, dedicated to improving healthcare access for Michigan’s elderly population. As an independent contractor with Signify Health, he provides in-home health visits to Medicare patients across Jackson, Ingham, Washtenaw, and Livingston Counties. Recognizing the barriers many older adults face in accessing traditional care, Dr. Knittle delivers personalized, comprehensive assessments directly in patients’ homes, ensuring they receive the attention and support they need in a comfortable and familiar environment.

Dr. Knittle’s approach to care is rooted in empathy, active listening, and a commitment to treating the whole person. During his visits, he evaluates not only medical conditions but also factors such as medication management, living environments, and the emotional challenges that often accompany aging. By addressing both clinical and social determinants of health, he works to break down barriers that can negatively impact patient outcomes and strives to create meaningful, trust-based relationships with those he serves.

His journey into medicine was deeply influenced by a personal experience—his mother’s breast cancer diagnosis just before he began medical school. Her resilience and recovery have remained a powerful source of inspiration, reinforcing his dedication to early diagnosis, preventive care, and high-quality treatment. Dr. Knittle earned his medical degree from Central Michigan University College of Medicine and completed his residency at Henry Ford Allegiance Health, building a strong clinical foundation that supports his patient-centered practice.

Looking ahead, Dr. Knittle has a growing interest in psychiatry and is actively engaging in psychiatry-focused research. He plans to pursue a psychiatry residency in the coming years, with the goal of expanding his ability to support patients facing mental health challenges. Through his work, he remains committed to delivering thoughtful, accessible care and making a lasting impact on the well-being of individuals and communities.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I love being able to visit patients where they are physically, by coming into their home. The fact that they are trusting me into the place where they live means so much. I get to have really long discussions about holistically all aspects of their health, from challenges with their living situation, the medications they're taking, what prior diagnoses they have, how they're managing it, and doing an exam to see where their state of health is. I also address the psychological state because sometimes it can be very lonely as you get older, especially over 65. Being able to empathize with those patients' problems and address them with the time that I have, time that they would not otherwise get due to the time constraints of a family practice office, is what I truly love about this work.
