Luthern Nursing Home
Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

Thomas Cioffoletti is a dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant with more than two decades of experience providing compassionate, hands-on care to individuals in need. Since beginning his CNA career in 2002, he has spent over 18 years serving residents at Luthern Nursing Home in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he works the night shift delivering attentive, patient-centered support. In addition to his facility-based role, Thomas also works as a home health aide, assisting clients in their homes with daily living activities, including personal care, cleaning, and overall support for families who need extra help caring for loved ones.

Before entering the healthcare field, Thomas proudly served nearly 21 years in the United States Army as a cook, retiring in 2003. His military service included both active duty and reserve time, with international experience in Germany, Guatemala, and Panama. Following his military career, he worked as a Food Service Supervisor at St. Francis Hospital, where he developed strong leadership and organizational skills. His transition into healthcare began as a practical decision to earn additional income, but it quickly evolved into a meaningful and fulfilling career path.

Thomas discovered a natural talent for caregiving early in his CNA journey, describing it as an “inner gift.” His genuine passion for helping others is evident in the relationships he builds with residents, many of whom specifically seek him out for his care and support. He believes that success in his role comes from having a positive attitude, strong character, and a sincere desire to make a difference in people’s lives. His ability to connect with patients and provide comfort has made him a trusted and valued presence in both facility and home care settings.

Outside of his professional life, Thomas values staying active and productive, always willing to step outside his comfort zone to learn and grow. His diverse background, from military service to healthcare, reflects his adaptability, resilience, and strong work ethic. Through every stage of his career, he has remained committed to serving others, bringing compassion, dedication, and integrity to everything he does.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I like taking care of people, and I see the end result of it. The residents actually sometimes look for me, which is really meaningful. You have to like what you do, and I genuinely enjoy helping people. Whether it's working the night shift at the nursing home or doing home health aide work during the day, I find it rewarding to provide that assistance to people who need it. It doesn't bother me because I have a good attitude and disposition for this kind of work.
