Theresa Nancy Grabo, RN, Ph.D. was a dedicated nurse practitioner, educator, and pioneer in nursing education, whose career spanned several decades. She began her nursing journey at the Wilkes‑Barre General Hospital School of Nursing, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to patient care and academic excellence. Furthering her expertise, she earned a Ph.D. in Nursing Education from the University of Pennsylvania, preparing her to shape the next generation of nurse practitioners and nursing leaders.
Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Grabo taught at numerous institutions, including Wilkes University and Binghamton University, where she notably initiated the doctoral program for nurse practitioners, recognized as only the second of its kind in New York State. Known for her unwavering dedication, she commuted for 17 years to educate students, reflecting her commitment to academic rigor and the advancement of nursing education. She was instrumental in establishing nursing programs that continue to influence healthcare education today.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Grabo was deeply devoted to her family and community. Married for 52 years, she attended daily Mass with her spouse and embraced a life of service, integrity, and compassion. Her legacy endures in the countless students she mentored, the programs she helped establish, and the standard of excellence she set for nursing education nationwide.
