Tammy V. Pritchard, RN

Tammy V. Pritchard, RN has devoted 15 years to the nursing profession, currently serving as a supervisor at White Oak Manor in Shelby, North Carolina. Her career reflects a rare combination of clinical expertise, leadership, and compassionate, patient-centered care. Tammy is known for her heart-centered approach, dedication to her residents, and ability to foster trust and comfort in every patient she serves.

Her journey into nursing was both unexpected and deeply personal. After her late husband spent over a year at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) battling leukemia, his oncologist encouraged Tammy to consider nursing. Initially, she had planned to pursue medical coding while working as a customer service representative. However, her biology and chemistry instructor at Greenville Technical College recognized her potential and strongly urged her to change her major, believing she had a calling for nursing. Tammy embraced this guidance and graduated with her Associate’s degree in Nursing in 2011.

Following graduation, Tammy spent nearly a decade as a travel nurse, gaining extensive experience across med-surg, orthopedic, and neurology units in multiple healthcare facilities. Her adaptability, clinical skill, and compassionate care quickly earned recognition. During her travel nursing career, she received the prestigious DAISY Award and became the first travel nurse to be named Employee of the Month at two separate hospitals, honors that reflect her dedication and impact on patient care.

Today, Tammy serves as a supervisor at White Oak Manor, where she applies her experience and leadership to improve patient outcomes and support her nursing team. She continues to emphasize the importance of empathy, attentiveness, and heart-driven care, mentoring staff and ensuring residents receive the highest standard of attention and respect.

Tammy attributes her success to caring from the heart and cultivating meaningful connections with patients and colleagues alike. Reflecting on her career, she notes that the greatest fulfillment comes from improving the lives of those she cares for. Given the opportunity to start over, she would choose nursing again without hesitation, committed to making a difference every day in the lives of her patients.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I love most about nursing is my patients—now called residents in a nursing home setting. My residents are at the heart of everything I do.
