Susan Allen, ACNP-BC

Susan Allen, ACNP-BC, is an experienced emergency medicine acute care nurse practitioner with more than three decades in nursing and nearly twenty years in advanced practice. She currently serves as a Nurse Practitioner at Memorial Medical Center, where she provides high-level, hospital-based care in a fast-paced emergency department setting. In addition to her emergency medicine role, she has extensive experience as a hospice nurse practitioner with Alternative Home Health Care, reflecting a broad and compassionate approach to patient care across the continuum. She holds board certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the international nursing honor society.

Susan’s path into healthcare was shaped early by personal experience, as she spent much of her youth accompanying her father through repeated hospitalizations for heart disease. These formative moments inspired a deep commitment to nursing and an early focus on cardiology, where she developed a strong clinical foundation. She earned her Master of Nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago while working full time and raising two young children—an accomplishment that reflects her perseverance, resilience, and dedication to professional growth.

Over time, Susan transitioned from cardiology into emergency medicine, drawn by the complexity, variety, and critical decision-making inherent to acute care. Her background in hospice further deepened her appreciation for patient-centered care, communication, and dignity at every stage of life. Education is a central pillar of her career; for the past decade, she has precepted nurse practitioner students, mentoring several each year and emphasizing clinical excellence, preventive care, and professional resilience. Outside of work, she enjoys outdoor activities during the summer months and creative indoor crafts in the winter, maintaining balance while continuing to make a meaningful impact in healthcare.
