Sunita Ravikumar, MD
Dr. Sunita Ravikumar is a highly accomplished vascular surgeon with more than 40 years of experience, practicing in Westchester, New York. Originally from India, she moved to the United States in 1977 with the goal of pursuing advanced surgical training and ultimately completed her residency at New York Medical College in 1982, followed by a fellowship in 1984. While she initially intended to specialize in cardiac surgery to treat rheumatic heart disease, she found her calling in vascular surgery, drawn to its ability to impact multiple organ systems throughout the body. Over the course of her career, she has built a reputation for clinical excellence and a deep commitment to improving patient outcomes.
For the past 35 years, Dr. Ravikumar has led her own independent practice, Westchester Vascular, where she specializes in vascular surgery, wound care, and the treatment of lymphedema and lipedema—an often underdiagnosed condition that disproportionately affects women, particularly during menopause. Her work focuses on delivering life-changing results, especially in complex wound care cases where patients experience dramatic healing and recovery. In addition to her clinical practice, she maintains affiliations with Westchester County Medical Center and Montefiore, and she is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as the Royal College of Surgeons in both the United Kingdom and Canada.
Beyond her surgical career, Dr. Ravikumar is an accomplished innovator and entrepreneur. She is the founder of Sun Scientific, a medical device company she has operated for over two decades, and previously founded Minilab Technologies, which pioneered needle-scopic surgery using ultra-small instruments that minimize scarring and pain. After successfully selling Minilab Technologies, she continued to contribute to medical advancement through invention and research, holding more than 100 issued patents and presenting her work at national and international conferences. Driven by a passion for innovation and patient care, Dr. Ravikumar remains dedicated to transforming lives through both cutting-edge technology and compassionate treatment.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I love most is being with patients when they get better. That gives me the best feeling in the world. That's why I sometimes go on non-profit trips to other countries, because when you go there and help patients get better in just a week at a time, that's the best feeling. I also do a lot of wound care, so when patients come in with a huge, big ulcer, and after a few weeks it's completely healed, they are transformed. We change lives, and that's what I like about my career.
