Sierra Leone is a highly skilled Registered Nurse with nearly five years of RN experience and close to a decade in the medical field, having begun her healthcare journey as a Certified Nursing Assistant in 2016. She currently serves in the surgical and trauma intensive care unit at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in downtown Chicago, where she provides critical care to patients with complex and life-threatening conditions. Her clinical expertise spans trauma nursing, emergency care, intensive care, and specialized areas such as neuroscience and neurosurgical ICU, making her a versatile and highly capable clinician in fast-paced, high-acuity environments.
Sierra earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2021, graduating with honors. She holds a Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) certification and is actively working toward her CCRN certification to further advance her critical care expertise. Deeply committed to professional growth and excellence, she is also a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, staying engaged with the latest standards and advancements in her field.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most about nursing is being that person who can help patients and their loved ones on what is quite literally the worst day of their life. I want to be that person to sit there and help them. I chose trauma nursing because it's very near and dear to my heart. When I was working on my undergrad, I lost a very close person to me who was involved in a very tragic accident and was airlifted to a trauma ICU, where he spent almost 2 months. It was there where I got to see just the level of care that the nurses gave, not only to my loved one, but to the family. I decided from then on that I wanted to also be that person to help patients and their loved ones during their most difficult moments. From then on, it's just been full steam ahead with trauma nursing.
